Also: Auditions for the Spring play are happening this week (Today and Friday). Time slots are during lunch and after school. Please remember there is a $10 fee for the students to join Theater club, plus possible costume fees. We will have a mandatory all cast meeting next Wednesday until 5. EVERYONE WHO MAKES THE PLAY AND ALL TECHIES Must be there! I will be getting rehearsal calendars and contracts together for them to have signed and brought back. This will be the only meeting next week.

Please remember the Nacho bar this Friday that PTG is hosting, $1.25 for lunch! Also dance will be selling sodas for 50 cents on Friday.

There will be a PTG meeting Monday, March 5. Please mark your calendars. We have a lot to do before the spring silent/live auction event. Please remember to bring in your old cell phones and ink jet and toner cartridges for recycling. The Terracycle committee needs a chairperson. If interested please respond to this e-mail. This is a great way to get volunteer hours. A special thanks goes out to Kim Winter for his persistence in finding us a refrigerator. Home Depot donated a brand new fridge. Thanks again Kim. What a chilly start to our week! Lot’s of announcements this week.

1) I would like to start of this week bragging about our three girls who went to State competiton this weekend for the Jr. Thespian Competition. I am proud to say that Annie and Lindsey’s scene brought home an excellent rating and I’yhanna’s monologue is bringing home a superior rating! These are very high marks for a State competition and they were competing against about 3,000 young thespians. So way to go girls! I would also like to thank Mrs. Sapp for volunteering her weekend to help chaperone and drive us this weekend! Your volunteerism is greatly appreciated!!!

2) A/B honor roll field trip will be this week to see a movie at the Regal Royal Park 16 on Newberry Rd. The cost is $7.50 for the ticket and we will be needing parent drivers to get students there. I am attaching the permission slip and I will be sending one home with your student. I need the permission slip back by Wednesday so I can know how many drivers I will need. If you would like to drive, please let me know asap how many you can take. I won’t need the money until Friday.

3) I will be selling candy grams through lunch tomorrow, so if you or your student has not had time to buy to some, please send in money tomorrow! They will be passed out tomorrow during 7th period!

4) The school dance tickets will be on sale for $4 through Thursday. On Friday they will be $5 and they will also be available at the door. Please remember that the students are encouraged to wear pink, red, white, purple or black to the dance. We will also have a photo booth available for $2 at the dance, so send in some extra money for a great photo opportunity. Still looking for chaperones and donations for concessions at the dance. Thank you to those parents who have already sent stuff in or have volunteered too. If anybody would like to be in charge of pictures, that would be great too!

5) SPRING PLAY AUDITIONS: If your student is interested in learning about the Spring Play auditions, there will be a read through of the play THIS WEDNESDAY. They need to be picked up by 4:45. This is not mandatory, but if they are interested in auditioning, I will be talking about the auditioning process. The auditions will be happening through out the week next week. Students will be required to pay $10 to be a part of the play. This will go towards costumes, props, scenery and other needs of the play. This is a mandatory fee, but we are willing to take donations of funds beyond that if you would like to get some donation money in to the school in place of your volunteer hours, this is a great opportunity! CAST WILL BE ANNOUNCED Monday FEB 27 and rehearsals will be after school. Students will only be allowed one missed rehearsal. So if they are not available after school, this will not be the activity for them. I encourage all students to participate it will be a great play and there are several roles for the students to play from very big to very small. I will ask the students to let me know their availability during their audition so I can start planning rehearsal schedules.

6.) Come out and Support or Dance and Zumba program at the mall this Saturday at 2:00 in front of Belk. 6 of our dedicated dancers will be performing two dances as well as a Zumba presentation. If you are curious about Zumba, this would be a great opportunity to come check it out! I will be passing out free class passes (limit one per person) during the performances. Also, all students and parents are welcome to come show your stuff. ANYBODY is welcome to Zumba with us regardless if you have been coming or not. It is a free class presentation!!!!

7) The 6 dancers who will be performing this Saturday will have MANDATORY rehearsal this Tuesday until 4:30 and Thursday until 4:45. They will also need to meet at the mall at 1:30 to help set up and prepare for their performances. Please let me know if there are ride arrangements that need to be made ASAP
There will be regular scheduled ZUMBA this week. Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30-6:30 and Saturday 11-12. PLEASE COME JOIN US!!!!!

9) Finally THANK YOU to the parents who have been volunteering their time recently. I had a great turn out for chaperoning for SKATE Station and I was very happy to see some new parents volunteering at the school this week. Please remember the commitment you made to this school and your child’s education, 20 hours of volunteering or $200. We appreciate all your hard work and it doesn’t go unnoticed!

I would like to thank all of you for attending the PTG meeting. Your contributions and ideas are valuable to the HMS mission. We had a productive meeting and have set a path to facilitate the opportunities ahead.

Hoggetowne is now a TerraCycle site for cell phones, as well as inkjet and toner cartridges. The school receives money for each and every cell phone, as well as inkjet and toner cartridges we can provide. If you are able to contribute any of these items, there will be boxes labeled in the front office for your convenience. Just drop the appropriate product in the box and help us start recycling and making money today.

Remember we are having a box top and labels for education drive this month. Please turn in your boxtops and labels by Friday, February 24. You can also go to the boxtop website and get extra points for our school as well.

The Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest calls for students in grades 1-12 to write an essay, poem, or thank-you letter (500 words or less) that describes how a teacher has influenced their life. Participating schools will collect the essays and provide them to their local Barnes & Noble store representative. Students who author the winning essays, poems, or thank-you letters will receive a certificate of recognition and be honored at their local store during a ceremony for the winning teachers.

The winning teachers will be recognized at a special event at their local Barnes & Noble store and will receive a special award acknowledging their achievement. They will also receive a selection of Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics series (for high school teachers) or a set of 5 Classic Starts series (for grades 1-8 teachers). The 6 regional winners will each receive a NOOK eBook Reader and a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card.
