This is a reminder about the band concerts next week (Tuesday 5/22 and Wednesday, 5/23). There will be 2 shows each day: 1:00 and 6:00. All are welcome to attend. There is no charge, but donations will be accepted. Donations will help support the music program.

Tuesday, May 22: Periods 1, 2, and 3

Wednesday, May 23: Periods 4, 6, and 7

Students are encouraged to stay after school on the day of their show. Please send $1.50 per slice of pizza. If you pick up your child after school on the day of their show, please have them back by 5:30.

Students may come to school out of uniform on the day of their show. However, they must be dressed appropriately, following guidelines in the Hoggetowne handbook.

It is important that all music students perform at their concert. Every student plays an important role. Also, students are required to stay for the entire show. Students who do not attend their concerts will not receive a passing grade for the grading period and will not be able to perform in band in the future. The concerts are worth 50% of their grade.

You are invited to Hoggetowne Middle School of the Performing Arts’ annual Awards Ceremony. It will be held next Friday, May 18, at 6:30 PM at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 4315 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville. The easiest way to get there from the school is to travel west on 39th Avenue to 43rd Street and turn left, go down to 23rd Avenue and turn right. The church is on the corner across from the new CVS store. There is plenty of parking. You will take the first chance you have to turn left, turn around and right at the parking lot.

This Ceremony is for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, families, friends and faculty. Awards will be given for each grade. 8th graders will also be recognized as they go off to high school.

We hope that you all will come. The ceremony will be in the sanctuary and a reception for everyone will be held outside under the covered walkway. We will have cake and punch. We are in need of cupcakes, muffins, fruit etc. These can be brought to the ceremony. If you would like to donate plates, cups or napkins please e-mail me and then bring these items to the school by Wednesday, May 16.

Only a couple of things this week:

1) Don’t forget about the Awards Ceremony on Friday. Please remember this is for all students and not a graduation. All students are encouraged to come.

2) Hamlet-Thrill-Ma-geddon (Theater Play) Will be performing this Thursday at 6:30 pm and it is only a $3 donation at the door. We will also be selling concessions, t-shirts, and opportunities to take your picture in front of the step and repeat from the Fundraiser

3) Zumba this week on Tuesday 5:30-6:30 and Saturday 11-12 (NO Class Thursday)

4) There seems to be a trend to be “injured” or limp recently. Please remember to send in a note either from yourself or from a doctor if your student if they are not going to be able to participate in class. There is still a lot of activities left before the end of the year and I want to make sure that this does not become a “trend” for the rest of the year.

Dancers: (ALL DANCERS NEED TO GET JAZZ SHOES from School on FRIDAY, I will bring skirts and blue mesh shirts, and tights. HAIR NEEDS TO BE SECURED IN A PONYTAIL!) No Air Dancers- You need to wear Black Jazz Pants, Black Leotard (or if neccessary, black shirt), Black Jazz Pants and Blue Mesh Shirt Someone like you- Black tights, white long skirt and black leotard and black jazz shoes Set Fire to the Rain- (Girls) Purple short skirt, black tights and black leotard with black jazz shoes (boys) black long pants and black undershirt (if you still have it, that is the one you need to wear) black jazz shoes

Players: Villagers-black tights, tutu, multicolored bright solid (no words) t-shirt. Converse or other closed toed shoes (hair-pony tail) Players-Jersey, black tights and tutu Barry-all black Sam- white sheet, beard

ALL DANCERS/ACTORS Need to be at the Paramount Hotel at 7 pm. All parents are welcome to come in and watch at 7:30 w/o a ticket. After they are done performing, you are more then welcome to leave.
